Watery Good Fun... November 5, 2006 Tony Munchtuna (UK) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
14 years before 'Finding Nemo' splashed into cinemas, 'The Little Mermaid' had already taught us that it is indeed better, down where it's wetter Take It From Meeee.... where do i start This delightful Disney-fied adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's tale of the same name still holds its own after all these years of advancements in animation. It's partly because the studio really pushes the boat out, as it were, when it comes to getting the visuals right. But it's also because this is a great story, with a strong female lead, a nice array of supporting characters, suspense and romance in all the right places and some better-than-decent tunes. Jodi Benson does a fantastic job as the voice of Ariel, the "little mermaid" of the title (actually, she's 16 so not really all that little) For reasons we can only hazard a guess at, she longs to leave her deep sea life behind her and live up-top with the human types. So, despite the strong advice of King Triton (who's also her dear old daddy), she makes a deal with the tentacled seahag Ursula which involves swapping her voice for a pair of legs. The catch? She's got to get the handsome and unfortunately named Prince Eric to snog her before the sun goes down on the third day, or she'll be tossed back into the sea like an old trout Of course, it goes without saying that pop's is gonna chuck a wobbler when he finds out lol The colourful and imaginative backdrops make for a visual treat, particularly in the underwater scenes, whilst the characters are much better written than many of their counterparts from other Disney flicks of the period. Perhaps the only exception to that is witchy woman Ursula, who's a bit like Madam Mim from 'The Sword and the Stone' only without the comedy value. And you can't help but wonder why, if she's such a great sorceress, she doesn't use some of that magic to make herself vaguely presentable instead of living her life as some sort of aquatic Grotbags. i hope this review helps. to those who are not already familiar with the little mermaid my advice is simple.. "BUY IT" and if you have seen it my advice again is 'BUY IT' i have been waiting for the release of the little mermaid for years' all we need next is 'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' :) hope you lovely people of amazon enjoy this film..
the best disney movie to date! October 2, 2006 Syreeta Allen (dereham) 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
The little mermaid is a timeless classic and I have been waiting absolutely years to own it on DVD. It is a delightful tale of romance, family heartache, friendship and adventure. This fun-filled tale will please the whole family. The humorous Sebastian and the loyal Flounder help Ariel keep secret from her father, her love for the human Prince Eric. She trades her voice to the seawitch in exchange for legs, only the seawitch has a much more cunning and evil plan. This is a disney movie at its best, with laughter and tears and a heartwarming ending. One to watch and not to be missed. Highly recommended for any little girl, any family and anyone who has ever had a dream.

Love this film!!!! I loved it when I was younger, wore out my video & had to have it replaced, ha ha ha. I'm now 24 & wanted it for my 3 yr old daughter... I waited very impatiently for November when it was re released, I had it ordered ready so I received it straight away on the day it was released. I am happy to say that my children love it!! yes, my 4 yr old son loves it too. A Brilliant film that will be loved by generations forever!

What a brilliant remastering by Disney! Superb quality and still capturing the wonderful magic of Ariel and friends under-da-sea!! Lots of extra features to check out and enjoy the magic of when you were a child - great for your own kids now to enjoy!! A must have for all Disney collecters
magical :) November 10, 2006 S. Firth (Leeds, UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The other day i saw an advert on tv for this dvd, and it reminded me of the magical film, and the songs and the characters. i decided to dig out my old video and have a sing-a-long, but to my dissapointment, it had dissapeared. i know my mother had a clear out a few months ago and gave a lot of my disney vids to a little girl she knows. i was gutted, but happy that this little girl would see the magical world of disney. now, i want to buy this dvd, and many other disney ones! the little mermaid is a fantastic tale of love and friendship and family. its fun, colourful and joyful. the songs really stick in your head. the dreaded ursula is a brilliant baddie (and still scares me). And Eric is a very handsome cartoon man! u dont have to be a kid to enjoy this film, or any other disney film. just buy it, love it, and remember.... it's so much better Under The Sea.
