Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of Earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain (Jeff Garlin) joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. Underneath the slapstick comedy and touching love story is a poignant message about the folly of human greed and its potential effects on earth and the entire human race. --Tami Horiuchi, Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars An absolute Joy...   October 3, 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a classic.

Welcome to the world of Wall-e (Waste Allocation Lifter Earth-Class) the loveable robot. The plot (far from weak) circles around the sole surviving example of a machine deployed to clear the planet of the mess that mankind has made of it, whilst the human race left the planet with a plan to return once the mess was gone. This plan has however failed leaving Wall-e to continue with the task on his own. A rubbish clearing robot with caterpillar tracks for feet that lives in a container collecting human artefacts, is hardly the profile of a hero to save the world but then I guess that is the point.

Speaking as somebody who doesn't consider themselves a tree hugger, I can see how the ecological message aspects of this film may rub some people up the wrong way, but the subtle messages about corporate domination and pollution throughout this film make their point well, and in my view this part of the film was very good.

Technically the animation is in a word stunning. I had to remind myself at times that I was watching animation the quality is that good. Wall-e surpasses any other animated film I have seen in this regard.

It is easy to dismiss this film as a film for children, but honestly Wall-e entertained and moved me in ways that I didn't expect, and my Partner was in tears at the end with a classic Disney ending. This for me is film of the year 2008. Not much in this or any other genre has come close.

5 out of 5 stars Another classic from Disney and Pixar   October 11, 2008

Wall-e is a beautiful, magical film with a magnitude of messages for contemporary society. Disney is the one aspect of my childhood that has never lost its touch. This film shows just how fantastic the relationship between Disney and Pixar really is. Wall-e is an adorably selfless character and it is difficult not to become so emotionally attached.

I knew nothing about this film before seeing it at the cinema and was truly amazed by how moving the scenes without speech are. Although the first half of the film lacks words, this in no way lessens the inevitable entwining of viewer and character that only Disney has perfected.

Toddler, teenager or grandparent - Wall-e is entertaining for all and no one is excluded. This is a funny, moving tale and I really cannot falter it.

An exclusive slinky too? It feels as if I never grew up!

Another Pixar masterpeice. A Must have, must see story of epic proportions for veiwers of all ages.
There are jokes for the kids and a few descrete comments for adults too, as well as a sideways look at the damage we are all doing to the world and what slobs it is turning us all into.
BUT the main plot is another glorious Pixar look at life through the eyes of an innocent.
My kids ahve see Wall-E and Ratatoue and always seem to go for the Wall-E stuff in the shops.

A comment from my 2 year old, "its funny".

Can probably survive without the slinky though

5 out of 5 stars Charming, Funny and a modern classic....   September 20, 2008

I have to admit i love Disney films, for the most anyway, i probably prefair the older ones such as Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone etc, but i also love Pixar movies, before and after merging with Disney.

For me they both have had their ups and downs, i prefer the older Disney movies were it was about fun and comedy rather than social meanings which have destroyed some of the new films.

Wall-E for me, is a return to roots, its a funny and moving story about a lonely robot who finds love and wont let go. Its far fetched but hey its a cartoon so who cares.

It does have its underlying comments on life such as forgetting who we are and striving to be more than we are, but i prefer to ignore that and just enjoy the movie without the social commentry.

As always the animation is breathtaking and Pixar again raise the bar, this will probably look stunning on Bluray.

All in all, this has to be 1 of the best animated films of the last 10 years, up along side Nemo and Toy Story, a real gem for young and old alike...

This film, whilst having a 'theme' is also a love story which anyone from anywhere can understand. The 'save mankind from itself' ethic is fine, but do not get too bogged down in that. Instead, look at the main characters - human kind are an aside in this film. You have a lonely bachelor - Wall.e and a trendsetting nu-age, sophisticated 'girl'. She has a career and is keen to do things well & efficiently. Bring on Mr. W. A slightly older robot who has sagacity and experience tempered with tolerance and patience - all those years clearing up everyone's rubbish - and do not miss this - he DOES have a purpose as if he did not do his job the ending of this film cold not come about. This film will appeal to everyone - regardless of race and creed. The only downside is that, yes, it is based upon the good ol' US of A. But then perhaps the producers/writers reflected uon that and blame themselves for the demise of humanity. Its great.

And do not forget the other Wall.e related products you can buy!!
