If it's like the beta, it'll be good!! September 6, 2008 McStick (UK) 28 out of 30 found this review helpful
If this product is anything like the beta version, this is going to be a vast improvement over the 2008 version. New features like Norton Insight, which allows you to scan files and compare them to trusted versions on the Norton servers means full system scans will be much quicker, due to these files being ignored if they haven't changed since Insight was run! Another great feature, which has appeared is the site adviser, similar to McAfee's, which can be downloaded as part of an add-on pack. If this wasn't enough, liveupdate has been re-engineered to make it quicker, with updates more frequently, meaning you're always protected. The whole program itself is also much faster, which certainly will be popular with a lot of customers! So is it all good then? Well if there is a downside to this review, I haven't seen it yet! EDIT: Good news! It's just as good, and customers with existing subscriptions can upgrade free from the Symantec US site! (Which is what I did, with no problems!)
Quick, effective and less intrusive than before November 26, 2008 Ben (Hereford, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'd used Norton before but had often found it clunky to use and infuriatingly slow. The more recent models, however, have proved to be a pleasant surprise and the latest incarnation has been the best yet in my experience. Installation was really fast and required very little effort on my part. Scans are much much faster (quick - under a minute, full - about 20mins) and the feature which removes tracking cookies is a particularly useful time-saving feature. The panel is easy to understand and updates seem to come more quickly and with little interruption to functionality too. In short, a great improvement which has left me a happy customer.
So Far So Good October 25, 2008 S. C. Betts 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
We purchased this product just over a week ago after removing Norton Internet Security 2005 with Norton's Removal Tool. so far it has done what it says on the tin. It has done its scans when the computer is idle, spotted a trojan horse and worked away quietly in the background. Windows XP SP2 seems happy with this product as there have been no crashes freezes or other problems. Long may it continue!
Wonderful or awful? October 21, 2008 Bernardette Lugner (Manchester, UK) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Here's the wonderful, worth 5 stars: Some major changes in Norton Internet Security make life sweeter for users. Installation is fast and simple -- I needed only 10 minutes. Updates are much faster than in earlier versions. The new "pulse" updates run every few minutes and do a tiny update of virus signatures. The full-scale update has less to do, and I have never noticed it. Scans are much faster, too. That is because a new feature - Norton Insight - identifies files that do not need scanning every time. These amounted to about two-thirds of my files. Scans take place when your PC is idle, and pause if you have to resume working. All the default settings were sensible, except for antispam being off. The email scanner integrates with Outlook and Outlook Express, but not with Windows Mail. That's a strange omission for Vista users, who will also find that Windows Defender and the Windows firewall have been switched off, and Norton's antispyware and firewall have taken over. This is just what you would expect, of course. You can delete the useless little Norton gadget that appears in your sidebar. I really appreciated the quietness and speed of this security suite. It does not bother you, it just gets on with its job. If you want to adjust settings and read log files, you can, but you really do not have to. And a few days later . . . The awful: Protection switched off and would not switch on. I connected to Symantec's online support, a helpdesk person took remote control of my PC, removed the product, reinstalled it, made some changes to my PC's registry, left me with a machine that would not start into Windows, then gave up and broke off remote control. Luckily, I am well experienced with PCs, and in a couple of hours was back in business. A novice would be unable to use their PC again if this happened to them. No more Symantec/Norton products for me or anyone I can influence. Ever.
surprisingly good October 30, 2008 Sam (York, UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I think this is one of the best Norton editions. I had major problems with almost every previous one. This installed without any problems, and had in configured quite easily after installation. First impression: nice interface, seems to be improved and has a general good feeling about it in the sense that it does make you feel that your pc is actually protected. I had another firewall installed, so did not really bother with the one included here. Good points: the pulse update is quite good, keeps up to date on a regular basis. Runs quite well on Win XP, though at the beginning, and after boot-up, it does take a while for it to run so it is not really so light on system resource usage. It has all the features and functions you require from a good protection suite, and any self-respecting software should have. The browser protections is one of the best features, especially nowadays the number of phishing websites is increasing dramatically, and using this with a decent browser with ad-block will do a great job. I am happily surprised with this Norton, did not expect much of it, and thought another Norton, same problems, but that was not the case. This is very recommended after all the improvements from previous versions, and it certainly goes on top of the list with Bitdefender and Kaspersky.
