It's no documentary, but it's fantastic nonetheless! November 6, 2007 I love Henry Cavill 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
OK so it's full to the brim with historical mistakes... times are wrong, names are wrong, people's appearances are wrong. In fact, having missed the very beginning of the first episode, I turned on half way through a jousting match and confused Buckingham with Henry VIII. If you know much about the period, you have to try and cast it aside and remember it's a TV show: Mary Tudor is named Margaret (to save confusion, although a Margaret Tudor also existed). And, all the Tudor men are primed and looking good for the camera. But, if you want the truth then turn to the History Channel. The script is fantastic, the acting is great, and it's one of the easiest programmes to get involved with whether you know nothing of history, or even study the period. Get it. Seriously.
Fantastic ! Can't wait till March 2008 for next season January 24, 2008 Clarebo (Spain) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Who gives a monkies about the historical errors, this is fantastic viewing, extremely addictive and don't know how I am going to be able to wait until march 2008 for the next season. This was a surprise Christmas gift and I have watched the 3 DVDs about 4 times already and still don't get tired of it. So great is the detail in each scene that each time I watch it I see something new which I had completely missed the first time round. Sam Neil is brillaintly cast as Cardinal Wolsey, he makes him so sinister and yet human at the same time. I don't know so much about the reality of Henry VIII, and I can imagine that he wasn't as slim or as goodlooking as Johnathan R.M but who really cares? I just enjoyed this for what it is, and as many others have said, don't know how I am going to be able to wait for the next season......roll on March!!!
STOP WITH THE HISTORY. FOR GOODNESS SAKE. March 3, 2008 K. Suleyman 8 out of 15 found this review helpful
I am sick and tired of reviewers criticising about the inaccuracies of history on a television program that was written purely for entertainment value. I'm sick of film critics doing it as well. Look if it isn't a documentary on the history channel then don't expect this to be a school lesson. This television drama was well acted and well written and is the best thing I've seen since Rome. I have read a lot on the Tudors so I do know some facts but when I'm watching a film or a television program I'm not one of those sad puppies who completely destroy it by saying it's not historically correct. FILMS AND TV PROGRAMS ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY!! Even the ones based on real events or people have to be altered for entertainment purposes. Besides I can well imagine a lot of romping in those days, wouldn't you have loads of women if you were the king, I mean, come on. It's entertainment and this is one of the best entertaining TV series that I have seen and I can't wait for the second series. Hooray for Henry!
The Tudors Series One September 1, 2008 Doreen Morley (Scotland) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am well versed on the Tudor Lineage and know that the historical content is far from accurate. But that aside, this is sheer entertainment. The most compelling series I have ever watched! Can't wait for Series 2.
It seems you either September 29, 2008 K. C. Simm (Lancashire UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It does seem you either love or hate this drama of Tudor life. Love it for the incredible sumptiousness of the production; and it does have very high production values. Love it for the sheer beauty of the production. Or hate it for the, tsk, tsk historical inaccuracies. What has got to be remembered is that this is not a documentary. It has never purported to be. Not even one of those terrible drama/documentaries. It is a riveting televison drama that has plunged itself headlong into that and made no allusions to anything else. Surely, we the great viewing public are capable of telling the difference. If you are a purist then dont bother watching. If you are into hedonism then revel in it.
